Frank J. Wolters (MD PhD) is associate professor at the departments of Epidemiology and Radiology & Nuclear Medicine at Erasmus Medical Centre.

Trained at Oxford, Rotterdam, and Harvard, he developed expertise in research methodology, applied notably to the prevention of neurological disease in clinical as well as community-based studies like the Rotterdam Study.

Frank leads the neuroepidemiology research team within Erasmus MC, which studies the etiology, prediction, and prevention of neurodegenerative and cerebrovascular disease, as well as polyneuropathy, migraine, and epilepsy.

He further spearheads the nationwide BIRD-NL consortium on dementia prevention in the Netherlands and the SHINOBI study for improving clinical management of covert brain infarction.

Frank is a co-investigator on various national and international initiatives including the Cross-Cohort Collaboration, Dementia Risk Prediction Project, and the Heart-Brain Connection collaborative research group.

He is executive committee member for the International Society of Vascular Behavioural and Cognitive Disorders (VasCog), and formerly for the ISTAART executive committee for Vascular Cognitive Disorders.

His work is supported by research grants from the Dutch Research Council (NWO Veni & Vidi), Netherlands Organisation for Health Research & Development (ZonMw), Alzheimer Nederland, Alzheimer’s Association, Dutch Heart Foundation, and Erasmus Trust Fund.
